CricHIIT FAQ

What is CricHIIT?

CricHIIT is fun and friendly, emphasising creating a social environment for people to make friends and feel comfortable while getting fit.


The CricHIIT programme is a combination of cricket and high-intensity interval training (HIIT), specifically designed to create an empowering atmosphere.

Who is CricHIIT for?

Although the CricHIIT programme is aimed predominantly at women and girls, CricHIIT is for everyone!

What is the age limit for CricHIIT?

There is no age limit to taking part in CricHIIT, however, if you are aged under 18 then you will be required to get a parent or guardian to consent and sign the pre CricHIIT consent form.

What equipment do I need as an Activator?

The CricHIIT programme is adaptable in nature and therefore can successfully run with or without equipment. However, it is recommended to use all/some of the basic kit if you can access it. Here is a list of suggested equipment for a session with 12 participants: 6 bats: 12 cones/markers: 2 Sets if stumps & a speaker. Within the Activator course we go through alternative equipment ideas if you do not have the recommended.

What should I wear?

Please wear whatever you are comfortable in and allows you to move freely.. One thing for sure, you do not need to wear whites to CricHIIT!

How fit do I have to be?

CricHIIT is an excellent way to get beginners involved involved in cricket and fitness at the same time. People can go at their own pace and activators will adapt cricket skills/atheletic skills to suit the participants needs.

Therefore, two people wioth very different fitness levels are able to do CricHIIT at the same time, but the avtivator may adapt the sessions to make it easier or harder. If you do feel like you are going to fast - tell the activator and let them know you need to slow down.

What equipment do I need as a particpant?

No cricket equipment needed. As a participant you just need to bring something to keep you hydrated like water and find out before the session if it is going to cost and money!

I have a medical condition, can I still take part?

We welcome everyone to CricHIIT, however, if you have a medical condition that could cause difficulties during or after CricHIIT, please first get clearance from your doctor to participate.

If you have any queries then let the activator know before the session starts and then they can adapt the session to suit your needs. They can also let you know the accessibility of the venue before you turn up if a wheelchair user or any other physical disability.

How long does a CricHIIT session last for?

We recommend that a CricHIIT session lasts between 45 minutes - 1 hour.

How often should I do CricHIIT?

CricHIIT is a high intensity exercise programme, so the frequency of participation will depend on your current fitness levels and the availability of sessions in your local area. For most people, once or twice per week is plenty!

Cricket isn't popular in my area, can I still run CricHIIT?

Absolutely! CricHIIT introduces basic cricket skills to Activators and participants alike, so no previous cricket experience or knowledge is required. Just bring your personality and enthusiasm and you’ll learn the rest on the Online Activator Course.

I don't have a cricket ground to use for CricHIIT, can I still run it?

Yes. As long as the facility agrees to you using it for CricHIIT then it can happen anywhere.

How much should I charge for my CricHIIT classes as an Activator?

Essentially, we want the programme to be as accessible to as many participants as possible. Keep this in mind when setting a price for your sessions, considering the cost of any overheads (e.g. hall hire, ground hire). Therefore, set a price that you think is reasonable, there is no set price.

What does CricHIIT look like?

CricHIIT is a fun group activity that features four main phases: Warm up, Overs, Powerplay and Cool Down. If you want to try something new that will challenge everyone in a different way then CricHIIT is for you.

What happens in CricHIIT?

Your certified CricHIIT Activator will take you through the session which includes a short warm up, overs (HIIT/cricket), Powerplay (a game) and a cool down. The largest portion of the HIIT workout is done in the Over which consists of 3 athletic skills and 3 cricket skills related to each other.

Can I take part in CricHIIT even though I am not female?

Yes. Essentially we want to make sure CricHIIT is inclusive as possible. Ideally sessions are for women or for those who identify as female.

Female Only classes may be essential to break down cultural barriers which stop women particpanting in sport.

Therefore, some classes may not be appropriate to take part in. We always advise you contact your local centre or activator before turning up.

Can I run mixed gender CricHIIT sessions?

Yes but keep in mind that CricHIIT is designed to enagage women and girls into cricket and physical activity.

What is HIIT?

HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. This involves periods of cardio vascular and strength exercises followed by periods of rest and recovery.

Is there a time limit to complete the course?

Complete you CricHIIT at your own pace to suit your other commitments. We estimate that the course takes approximately 4 hours to complete, but this doesn’t have to be done in one sitting as all your progress will be saved in our online learning portal.

Can I start the course and come back?

Yes, as soon as you leave the online course, you can save your progress. We recommend leaving after you complete each end of module quiz.

Do I have to do it in a certain order?

Yes, we have 8 modules in a certain order within the online course. The portal will take you through these step by step.

How much does the course cost?

The course costs £100 per Activator. If you are an organisation or governing body who want more than 20 Activators then we recommend getting in touch with CricHIIT.

How long does it take to become an activator?

We estimate that the course take approximately 4 hours to complete without resitting modules.

What do I receive when I complete my activator course?

Once you’ve completed the Online CricHIIT Activator course, you’ll receive a certificate to print at home, access to all the resources that you’ll need and be able to use the dedicated CricHIIT Activators forum to connect with other Activators around the world.

Activators must be 18 years old when they sign up for the course.

Who am I eligible to train once I become an activator?

Once you are a certified CricHIIT Activator, you can run sessions in your local setting. Everyone is welcome to join in with CricHIIT- Activators will just need to be aware of any adjustments to make for injury, disability, skill level or medical condition. If in doubt, ask your participants to check with their Doctor before commencing on a high intensity exercise programme like CricHIIT.
